GOVERNMENT AND POLITICS:
_____________________________________________________________________________
Head of Senate: Kenji Wright
_____________________________________________________________________________
Senate Representative: Clarity Davis
_____________________________________________________________________________
Senate Spokesperson: Zeth Johnson
_____________________________________________________________________________

Reza is a demarchy, which means that its policy-makers are routinely elected (in a similar manner to a jury) and regularly cycled through. There is a simple but effective system of checks-and-balances and selections in place to ensure that the colony is governed as fairly as possible. It has very few permanent positions of authority, most of which are found in the Senate, however there are a number of influential figures. Reza's government structure aims to be conservative and exert little control over its people.

The politics of Reza, however, are a different story entirely. There are no political parties - however, there are a few powerful committees or research conglomerates that are vying for dominance. They only hold formal power within the government when they are exceptionally powerful, but nonetheless, even the smallest groups often work to make their perspectives and agendas more widely accepted by the public.

The Allied Demarchy of Reza U48p5010

Kenji Wright, a 56 year old man of Asian-Earthian descent, is the current Head of Senate. He oversees and guides the agenda of the Senate as a whole, but is not allowed voting power. He is a strict and morally guided man who grew up true to ADR ideals - he studied vigorously, graduated top of his class in Legislative Administration Management at ADRA, and worked his way up through the rungs of the Rezaian government until he was elected as the Head of Senate. He has served three terms of two years each, and is widely appreciated by the public that he serves. Wright is accused of sometimes being too conservative, but by and large, he has a history of making good, solid decisions on what's best for the ADR.

The Allied Demarchy of Reza Clarit10

Clarity Davis, a well-known sociologist, is the current Senate Representative. She is famous within the ADR and some other colonies for her influential research on political systems and how they affect individuals. She has an accomplished background filled with academic and political accolades, not least of which include her position as Professor of the University of Rescenta, Head Researcher of the UOR's Sociology and Political Science Committee, and three-time elected Chief Advisor of the Legislative Advisory Committee. Despite being a political powerhouse, Clarity Davis is modest and keeps a low profile. "I don't care whether people recognize me," she often says, "I only care whether my work has a good impact."

POPULATION / DEMOGRAPHICS:

The population of A.D.R is mostly comprised of those born from the descendants of the original U.S. colony. This demographic features a relatively high percentage of Asian-American and Caucasian-American bloodlines. Other populations include non-A.D.R-born residents, who are often immigrants from other colonies or have descended from other ethnicities than the U.S. colony.

The most notable and by far the fastest-growing population is the Eosa. For more information on their origin and culture, see the Eosa section below.

The majority of the ADR's population is based on Rescenta, due to their regulations and limitations on human interaction on the planet Reza. The iconically domed Moon-Station at Rescenta is the capitol city, with a population of about 500,000. Other cities and settlements on Rescenta are varied, totaling a population of about 100,000. The ADR's remaining 300,000 people live across the planet Reza and in a few orbiting space stations.

AREA / GEOGRAPHY:

The Allied Demarchy of Reza Worldgen

The A.D.R is located in the Echo system, primarily spread out between the planet of Renascus-Zeta I, or Reza, and its moon Rescenta. They also have several small to medium-sized orbiting space stations.

The planet Reza is one of the most biologically diverse planets known to humankind. It was discovered by NASA in 2120, and colonized several years later by the research team that would later become the A.D.R. It is roughly the same size as Earth and has many similar environmental conditions, including breathable air, a life-sustaining atmosphere, water, and fully functioning ecosystems. It was first described as being "almost like a snapshot of prehistoric Earth, with hundreds of thousands of unique species that seemed to parallel the level of evolution found in Earth's Mesozoic and Cenozoic periods." Great care has been taken not to disrupt the ecosystem of the planet, and to let it evolve as natural as possible while under the watchful and observant eyes of the A.D.R scientists and researchers.

The moon Rescenta is slightly larger than the Earth's moon, and with slightly more hospitable conditions. Although the air is not breathable, the gravity of Rescenta is similar to Earth because of its larger size. The land is also more flat and has fewer craters, and the atmosphere is slightly more self-contained and rich in oxygen.

RESEARCH:

Research is mostly governed by the independent research committees, which are in turn supervised by the ADRA - or, the Allied Demarchy of Reza's Academy (also known simply as the Academy). The ADRA is a network of colleges, laboratories, and research facilities spread out across the planet Reza. It is funded directly by the ADR's government, as well as private contributions. It is one of the largest institutions of the ADR and consists of dozens of committees and organizations that keep it running smoothly while focusing on rapid and practical scientific advancement. Some of the most notable committees and their research concentration include:

Biology Research Committee (BRC) - Biological processes and organisms
Bioethics and Ethnology Committee - Ethical and practical research practices
Genetics Committee (GC) - Genetic patterns and the understanding of gene processes; Eosa
Council for Ecological Preservation (CEP) - Wildlife preservation; employs field agents and officers to enforce wildlife ordinances
Rezaian Paleobiological Research Committee (RPRC) - Dinosaurian and "early evolution" organisms
Technical Engineering Society (TES) - Divided into three branches for civil, technical/academic, and military

ECONOMY:

Credits
This is the form of currency used by the ADR. One credit is equal to one-hundred US dollars. The credit system is entirely digital and has no physical representation, besides a "coin" which every Rezaian carries (it also contains their ID, vital information, and the ability to make calls and send messages).

There are two major components to the Rezaian economy - the most significant is research and technological exportation, which is both a massive expense and a leading source of income for the ADR. Funding studies and extensive research can take an excessive amount of financial resources, but successful or meaningful research outcomes can sometimes replenish the cost several times over. However, research that fails to cover its own cost can also be a serious threat to the economy. It is a matter of skill, precision, and perhaps luck for the ADR to profit from their research ventures, but nonetheless, scientific advancements are an economic cornerstone of the ADR.

The other most notable factor of the economy is lunaculture. It is decisively more stable and reliable than Reza's income from research. Lunaculture is the ADR-developed science of growing and harvesting agricultural goods such as fruits and vegetables in facilities with environmental conditions that are synthetically simulated for the best production. It is an incredibly timely and space-efficient way to feed the colony of ADR itself, and allows for enough surplus food that lunacultural products are a significant component of Reza's exports.

MILITARY:

The Allied Demarchy of Reza Ss022_10

The ADR does not have a particularly impressive military. It focuses on practical defense of its territory and citizens, and does not seek to expand or intimidate more than absolutely necessary. The strength of the ADR's military lies not in any extensive training or superior numbers, but by technological and strategic advantage. The ADR military supplies its troops with better-than-average technology because of its advanced state of research, yet this still pales in comparison to some of the more military-based colonies. Strategists and tacticians are highly educated in the ADR, and will often attempt to win using their wits instead of sheer strength.

Markus North, General of Rescentan Operations

General North was born and raised on Rescenta, attending some of the ADR's best educational programs across the UOR and ADRA. He won scholarship after scholarship which would've carried him through any degree or vocational program in the colony and beyond. After a few years putting up with the daily grind of a degree that he felt wasn't teaching him anything, he ditched the academics and signed up with the military. With a little help from his educational background, he worked his way up the ranks and held positions ranging from technical engineer to front-line infantry and combat technician. Promotion after promotion, he finally got the opportunity to attend a military academy and jumped on it, graduating third in his class of three-hundred. After he commanded troops in the field, he earned the position of General of Rescentan Operations, and oversees everything military-oriented on the moon Rescenta, his old stomping grounds. He's seen as a bit rough by the public, but that suits him just fine. He gets things done with little concern for the typical overly-academized process of the ADR.

The Allied Demarchy of Reza Empty
PostSubject: The Eosa   The Allied Demarchy of Reza Icon_minitimeTue Jan 21, 2014 12:51 am

The Eosa are a highly controversial group, often called the first "non-human humans" by the media and researchers. They were created over two decades ago by an unethical and unauthorized experiment which stemmed from an ADRA project headed by the Genetics Committee. It began as a test to find the similarities between Earthian homo sapiens and similarly evolved species from the planet Reza, under the scientific premise that since the two planets followed a similar evolutionary tract, the species might be interchangeable. The experiment, which crossed the boundaries of ethics and science, built off of Earthian cloning technology to manipulate mixed DNA sequences of humans and non-human Rezaian primate species. The result? Hundreds of artificially inseminated and incubated babies which weren't entirely human (but also weren't entirely non-human).

A few scientists who were particularly involved in the experiment lost any concern they may have had for ethics and guidelines; despite reports of their activities and the threat of criminal prosecution they continued their work under the guidance of project overseer and Genetics Committee chairman Andre Orokov. Hundreds, if not thousands of first-generation subjects were "born" throughout the next decade. He granted them the name "Eosa" stemming from the Latin word for "dawn" as he expected them to herald in a new age in science and the understanding of intraspecies genetics.

At this point, it was apparent to many of the scientists that had once been devoted to the project that it should be discontinued immediately. The project was terminated, with plans to humanely abort and euthanize the subjects. However, the remaining scientists exploited the funding and political power of ADRA and the GC to keep the project under wraps for over a decade, until it was finally busted by a Senate-enforced police raid. The offending scientists were imprisoned immediately, facing charges from exploitation of academic position to experimental malpractice and cruelty to children and animals.

However, the ADR would have more issues to deal with now: they had to address what to do with the subjects of the experiment, which were very sentient and displayed human levels of intelligence. Despite the clear genetic differences between the Eosa and humans, the government could not ethically order them to be disposed of and, as such, entered a legal and moral stalemate that would last many years in regards to what to do with the partially human research subjects. This issue went dormant for several years when the oldest Eosa were in their teenaged years, as they were closely monitored and kept from inappropriately mixing with humans as much as possible. However, it has newly been revived as the majority of Eosa are reaching adulthood and reaching out for more rights that are afforded of citizens and humans in general.

Physiologically, Eosa are very similar to humans and are most often mistaken to be no different than the people around them at first glance. Many of their physical and psychological differences are not yet fully understood, but the basics of their different genetic makeup was well-documented through research and is still being explored. It seems that the more primitive, animalistic DNA that was spliced into the humans has granted the Eosa a more reflexive and intuitive nature in exchange for slightly impaired higher-level cognitive abilities. They are most easily recognized by colored geometric markings which are found on their skin as a result of the [I HAVEN'T DECIDED A PLAUSIBLE EXPLANATION FOR THIS YET LOL].

Today, most Eosa live across Rescenta and Reza. They have been mostly restricted from traveling abroad due to concerns of the implications that their interbreeding with humans would have. As such, it is relatively rare to see an Eos outside of the borders of the ADR at this time.

They are usually only identified by their research code, which was a unique first name given to them by the research team led by Orokov. Some Eosa choose the surname Orokov or a similar derivative to indicate their connection with the original laboratory team. Others choose (or are given) "normal" human names which do not relate to their Eosene genetics. In addition, Eosa may be identified by a quantum indicator which states the percentage of their genetic code which is human versus non-human and a laboratory code that states which of the several laboratories they were born and raised in.

The Allied Demarchy of Reza Female10

Rhaetia (full name 'Rhaetianna 98-2/L1') is one of the oldest Eosa and one of the first to be removed from the research facility and assimilated into human society. She was at first intended to be a "subject for more ethical research of the Eosa" but was instead taken in as a ward of the Department of Children's Services to be raised in a family environment. Despite her years in a testing facility, she showed high levels of intelligence and some familiarity with a family structure from day one. She adapted more quickly than any other Eos to a human lifestyle and mastered high school studies, which was seen as an incredible feat for someone that had never attended a learning institution aside from the experimental education presented to the Eosa as children in the facility. She was accepted to the UOR, where she excels in all of her classes and is working towards higher degrees in Sociology. Despite trying to live the life of a typical college student, she is of extreme interest to researchers, scientists, politicians, sociologists, and nearly everyone that she comes into contact with. She is slightly timid and mild-mannered but remains a strong advocate for Eosene rights and convergence with mainstream human society.

The Allied Demarchy of Reza Eva_or10

The oldest known Eos, code-named Eva by Professor Andre Orokov (full name 'Eva 89-11/L1'). She went missing at the age of sixteen shortly after the police raid on the facility and her whereabouts are currently unknown. She is presumed dead.

The Allied Demarchy of Reza Black_10

Skorn (full name 'Skorianon 85-15/L2') was widely considered a failure as a "sentient" Eos, presumably due to his quantum ratio being too low. He has been plagued his entire life by a host of untreatable illnesses and diseases, but was kept alive by the team - whether this mercy was out of a sense of compassion for the troubled, painful life they created or simply out of the curiousity of observation of what might happen to such a creature is uncertain. Nonetheless, Skorn has endured much suffering in his life and was considered unfit for integration into human society as a result of his communicative and cognitive impairments. He is housed in an assisted living center on Rescenta.

Augustin (full name 'Augustin 97-3/L3')
